Historic Tax Credit Applications & Management
The Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives Program offers a subsidy to those who rehabilitate income-producing historic properties, offsetting a portion of the costs. We provide consulting for Phases I, II and III of the documentation process (everything necessary to qualify for and receive the credits*).
* Knox Heritage does not provide guarantees that a proposed or actual rehabilitation will be determined to be in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
National Register Nominations
Knox Heritage can help determine if a property is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), a designation that can provide financial and community benefits. We also offer assistance with preparing a nomination for the NRHP and coordinating that nomination with the Tennessee Historical Commission and the National Park Service.
Preservation Easements
Knox Heritage holds preservation easements on 10 properties, including the Eugenia Williams House and Airplane Filling Station. These legal agreements protect a property’s historic features in perpetuity. We can help identify and document historic buildings and structures utilizing the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection, county archives, county register of deeds, federal records, state archives, geological data, and local historical societies. We can also guide property owners through establishing these easements and provide oversight to limit alterations to the property that diminish its historical value.
Historic Property Research
Our research services can uncover a property’s construction date, previous owners, architectural style, and events associated with the site (utilizing the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection, county archives, county register of deeds, federal records, state archives, geological data, and local historical societies). This can be pivotal in establishing NRHP eligibility, informing restoration plans and more.
