Mechanics’ Bank and Trust Building
612 S. Gay Street
The Tennessee Theatre has purchased a majority share of the historic Mechanics’ Bank & Trust Building located at 612 S. Gay Street. A comprehensive renovation will stabilize and restore remaining historic elements, while transforming the spaces to enhance the Theatre’s mission-driven activity and patron amenities. After a pandemic-induced delay, the project is slated to commence later this summer. Knox Heritage donors will be able to hear about the fascinating history of the building, learn more about the exciting renovation plans, and tour most of the building. This exclusive preview is happening before a formal announcement to the general public.
The Knoxville History Project‘s Jack Neely will discuss the building’s history and the Tennessee Theatre‘s Executive Director, Becky Hancock, will share how the building will enhance the theatre’s activities and outreach initiatives. Wine and light hors d’oeuvres will be served.
