Come join us in continuing the family tradition of gathering for Sunday supper. In the pleasant summer weather, that meant having a picnic in the side yard where large trees provided natural swings for the children, and the adults could visit, sip a Tom Collins and relax. Continuing the family tradition of a “wedding promise,” Westwood was built in 1890 by John Edwin Lutz and his bride, Ann Adelia Armstrong. This was the third Armstrong family house built on Kingston Road (as it was called then) and the third distinct architectural style chosen. Westwood, a Queen Anne Victorian, has many unique architectural features, including an art studio for Adelia Armstrong Lutz, who was Tennessee’s first female professional artist and who both painted and taught in her studio here. The family raised chickens, vegetables, and flowers on the 12+ acres of the property, so many of the items in this evening’s menu would have come from the land, and all of the baked goods and pastries would have been homemade, just as they will be for this Sunday picnic supper at Westwood.
