DAN HOLBROOK TO RUN 60 MILES ON HIS 60TH BIRTHDAY TO RAISE $60,000 FOR CHARITY, FEBRUARY 10, 2008
Knox Heritage One Of Three Beneficiaries
Knoxville, Tenn. – Knoxvillian Dan Holbrook has set his goals high and his priorities even higher. Holbrook, who enjoys long-distance running, has decided to run sixty miles on his sixtieth birthday. He’ll begin at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 10th at UT’s Tom Black Track, and hopes to complete the distance around 5:00 p.m. that same day. Friends and fellow runners are invited to join him for a lap or two, and everyone is invited to cheer him on from the bleachers. Hot beverages and soup will be provided.
In addition to achieving this goal for himself, Holbrook hopes to raise $60,000 for three non-profit organizations: The Hope Resource Center, , the Alzheimer’s Association, and Knox Heritage.
Persons wishing to help Holbrook reach the $60,000 mark can give any amount directly to these organizations, with the note “Holbrook 60 at 60” included with the gift. Donations will be tallied, and totals will be shared with Holbrook to inform him of the progress toward his goal.
Dan Holbrook has run several marathons (26.2 miles) and half-marathons, but in his “old age” he has taken to long trail races. He’s run three 50-mile races, such as the famous JFK 50-miler in Maryland, three 50-km trail races in Oak Ridge, Chattanooga, and Alabama, and the local Big South Fork trail race (17.5 miles) five times. A particularly memorable run was a single-day, 23-mile rim-to-rim jaunt with his two sons at the Grand Canyon, with significant elevation and temperature changes. Dan’s biggest challenge lies ahead this summer, as he’s entered in the ultimate long distance trail race, the Western States 100-mile Endurance Run in the Sierra Nevada wilderness on June 28. |
