KNOX HERITAGE CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS OF
MOST ENDANGERED HISTORIC PLACES IN KNOX COUNTY

Deadline for “Fragile Fifteen” Nominations is March 14, 2008

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knox Heritage invites the general public to submit nominations of Knoxville’s and Knox County’s most endangered places or structures to be included in the 2008 Fragile Fifteen. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 14.

Each May during National Preservation Month, Knox Heritage releases its list of the Fragile Fifteen to educate the public and local leaders about the plight of significant historic resources.  The list provides a work plan for the non-profit organization for the next twelve months.  Preservation strategies are developed for each site on the list and can include working with current property owners, government officials, citizens and/or potential new owners to preserve these important parts of our community’s heritage.

  • Eligible nominations should include the following information:
Name and/or address of the endangered property
  • Nature of the threat to the property
  • Name and contact information for the current property owner (if available)
  • Name and contact information for the individual or group submitting the nomination
  • Any known historical information about the property (year built, architect, past owners, etc.)

Nominations can be sent to Knox Heritage in the following ways: by mail to Knox Heritage’s 2008 Fragile Fifteen, P.O. Box 1242, Knoxville, TN 37901; by email to hcook@knoxheritage.org; or by fax to 865-523-0938. Knox Heritage will accept nominations until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14.

From crumbling neighborhood landmarks to disappearing rural landscapes, our distinctive local heritage often struggles to survive.  Fortunately, many historic treasures can be saved from destruction when concerned citizens work together to find solutions.  Knox Heritage invites the community to join us in our efforts to save our endangered heritage through advocacy and action.
